Types of Memberships:
There will be five types of members within the organization of the Newell Volunteer Fire Company. These membership classes will be as follows:
Regular Member (Firefighter): Regular member must be eighteen years of age or older. All regular members will have full voting rights and may hold any office within the organization, after their two year probationary period. Regular members will be eligible for all company, state and federal benefits. Regular memberships will be limited to a maximum of thirty individuals; any additional applicants will be placed on a waiting list until a roster slot is open.
First Responders: First Responders must be eighteen years of age or older. First responders will have full voting rights, but may only hold administrative offices, after their two year probationary period. First responders will be eligible for all company, state, and federal benefits. First Responders will assist Regular Members in all duties with the exception of Interior Structural Firefighting.
Lifetime Members: Any Regular of First Responder, over age fifty and with over twenty years of service or with medical conditions that limit their participation may become Lifetime Members. This must be approved by the general membership at a regular meeting. Lifetime Members have full voting rights and may hold administrative offices. Lifetime Members will be eligible for all company, state, and federal benefits.
There is no limit to the number of lifetime members that may be on the company roster.
Junior: Junior members are age fourteen to seventeen, and must comply with all state and company regulations, as stated in the Junior Firefighter Guidelines. Junior members have no voting rights and may not hold any office. Juniors are eligible for any company, state, or federal benefits. The Junior membership will be kept to a number that can be properly supervised by the Chief and the Chief Officer assigned to the Junior Firefighter Program.
Social: Social Members must be twenty one years of age or older. Social members are granted usage privileges to the company’s social quarters only. Social members will have no voting rights, may not hold any office, and are not eligible for any benefits. There are no limits to the number of social members.
